Defending our Environment

Melinda is the chair of the Illinois Senate’s Environment and Conservation Committee. She has fought polluters her entire life, most recently leading the passage of the strictest Ethylene Oxide regulations in the world. She has stood up to Exelon, demanding they compensate communities for nuclear waste stored within their borders.

Melinda thinks clean, renewable energy is vital to Illinois’ future. She is a champion of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which will create hundreds of jobs across Illinois while shifting our state’s focus to cleaner and more effective forms of renewable energy. She is the lead sponsor of the Energy Transition Zones Act, which incentivizes clean energy producers to locate in vacant areas formerly occupied by polluters.
